The Deterrent Park Partnership

The Pacific Northwest Submarine Heritage Association, an umbrella group of submarine veterans living in the Puget Sound region, have build Deterrent Park in partnership with industries, businesses, and individuals who agree that it is worth honoring the services of U.S. Navy Submariners, as well as the sacrifices endured by their families in war and peace. Deterrent Park also commemorates the strategic partnership of the Navy, the host communities of its submarine bases, and the technical achievements of the shipbuilders and contractors who built and maintained our nation's submarines. The whole Park was built entirely with private funding.

The park was “dedicated” and formally given to the Navy for use on 28 April 2000. Already the park is being used for numerous ceremonies (Retirements, Awards Ceremonies and Reenlistments), and we see visitors at the park every day.
To date, 29 May 2001, approximately 2000 bricks have been purchased. There is room on the “deck” for about 6000 bricks.  We have approx. 4000 bricks still available for purchase. The money received will go toward future projects and Park upkeep & maintenance.

The Pacific Northwest Submarine Heritage Association is a 501(c) 3 tax-exempt organization accountable to the IRS. All gifts are tax-deductible.

Deterrent Park features a full-length replica of the topside of a Lafayette class Fleet Ballistic submarine. The park also includes the actual sail and rudder of the ex-USS Woodrow Wilson, one of the original "Forty-One for Freedom" ballistic missile submarines that served our country between 1960 and 1994. The hull and deck areas are made of reinforced concrete.

Sea Wolf SSN 575 Screw

The Keyport Underwater Museum was kind enough to loan us the Starboard screw from the SSN 575, USS Sea Wolf. This ship had the distinction of being the sister ship to the USS Nautilus, and was the only ship in the navy to have been powered by a Sodium Reactor. The screw is on display outside the COMSUBGRU NINE Offcrew Administration Building, Bangor, WA.
